Behaviorism in Commercials

According to Anita Woolfolk in Educational Psychology, behaviorism is a very prevalent tool used in advertisements and commercials to encourage and entice people to buy or use certain products.  Let’s look at some commercials and advertisements seen on tv and see if we can figure out the behaviorist technique they are using.

So looking at the Axe Video, you can see that it is an example of operant conditioning.  The commercial is saying that if you wear Axe body spray, you will be irresistible to women.  In this commercial they are selling a fragrance product to young men.

This Coco Chanel commercial is selling perfume to women.  They are using the operant conditioning approach saying that if you wear this perfume you will stand out in a crown and attract beautiful men.
